FOUNDER

Mathor was founded by Kareema Elchalakani in 2021 after the birth of her daughter. Kareema absolutely loved dressing her beautiful baby girl in different accessories day to day. Being a new mum, she struggled to find the perfect accessories for her daughter that were not only luxurious in every design but also the perfect size for every growing baby. She felt there was a limit on finding available and fashionable items that she felt confident dressing her daughter in. She then decided to custom make her own styles for her daughter to wear and soon fell in love with the process.

Through Kareema’s travels she met families from various backgrounds in life who shared eye-opening stories that embody parenthood. Her dream was to share the headwear she created for her daughter with other parents and children she met along the way. Her daughters head pieces had became social conversation starters and by sharing these joyful experiences with strangers she soon realised Mathor was bound to be created.  

Mathor was then born, born to simplify the lives of parents by incorporating the delicacy of baby fashion and comfort into a single item without compromising on quality. Products are designed to be easy to wear, soft and breathable that are also exclusively unique and bold in appearance. The brand most importantly was created to be worn by people from all walks of life anywhere across the globe. Mathor hopes to reach people who are dedicated to giving their children the very best whilst enabling parents to feel confident as they spend every precious moment with their family – regardless of their circumstances. This is Kareema’s ultimate dream.

All products are handmade by a family of talented tailors who share a passion for garmet making. We work hand in hand to carefully select the softest and most delicate materials for your child’s skin.

Mathor is a brand that stems off the beliefs of Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of fertility. Given Kareema has an Egyptian background she grew up learning ancient Egyptian history. Throughout ancient Egyptian history Hathor was believed to control fertility, conception and childbirth, to keep both mothers and babies safe. She not only symbolised maternal care but also love, beauty, joy, dance, sexuality and music. In addition to being a consort of several pharaoh kings, Hathor’s position throughout Egyptian history was significant. She exemplified the true definition of love, freedom, beauty and femininity. 

Mathor drives to embody the core traits of Hathor, hence our logo was designed to use her influential and dominant ‘horns of power’ as the base and main purpose to the logo. The bird, also known as HWT-HR is the hieroglyphic symbol of Hathor. Concluding all what she and all parents stand for.
